Minimum Requirements
Ph.D. in Horticulture or related areas such as Plant Physiology. Experience in crop production, preferably farinaceous and coffee, as well as knowledge in nursery management and hydroponic systems would be beneficial, but not required. The candidates must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English. Applicants must have experience in innovative research, as well as the capacity to successfully obtain competitive research funds. Candidates’ resume should indicate skills in teaching undergraduate and graduate levels. Contestants must also provide evidence of success in conducting and publishing high-quality research.
Duties
JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Agri-Environmental Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus, is looking for candidates for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Horticulture. The appointment will be for 9 months with responsibilities that include 75% in teaching and 25% in research. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses such as: Plant Physiology, Starchy Crops, Coffee Growing, Nursery Management, and Hydroponic Systems, and fulfill all other obligations of a teaching job. Other responsibilities include: conduct research on tropical crops and publish in their areas of specialty, develop proposals, and seeking external funding. The position involves collaboration and interaction with other professors and related agencies, as well as participate actively in departmental activities and projects.

DUTIES

The duties of teaching staff are outlined in Articles 63, 64 and 65 of the General Regulations of the University of Puerto Rico. Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Participate in professional development activities that help improve and enhance teaching. Advise graduate students in research projects and provide academic counseling. Perform research work and attract external funding for research and laboratory improvement. Publish research work in peer-reviewed conferences and journals. Participate in faculty and departmental committees, continuous improvement and assessment activities, outreach activities, and support general service in the department.
