The position requires an organized and mature professional who is motivated and energetic and enjoys interacting with students and collaborators. The candidate must be committed to excellence in teaching at the graduate level including the creation of new courses, when necessary, and supervise Master’s and Ph.D. students. The successful candidate is expected to actively pursue external funding to support his/her research activities, develop an active research program in the area of specialization, publish original research in specialized peer-reviewed journals, and participate in other departmental activities and committees. The regular workload at the Department of Marine Sciences is twelve (12) credits, according to UPR regulations, divided among teaching and research. The candidate is expected to modernize the contents of the course as well as develop new related courses under the discipline of Chemical Oceanography. At the same time, the candidate will optimize degree requirements and remove barriers to reduce time to graduation. The candidate is expected to broaden educational opportunities by establishing collaborative interdisciplinary programs across departments, faculties, local and international institutions (Applied Ocean Sciences and Marine Engineering, Earth-Ocean interactions, Coastal Zone Management, etc.). All these activities will improve the department’s graduate academic and research quality, and benefit students, faculty, the department, and the University of Puerto Rico.
